Philadelphia may no longer be considered the poorest big city in the United States, but many are still struggling. With grocery prices up nearly 30% since 2020, accessing food and other essential items is still financially burdensome for many local families.

Whether you’re in need of their services, would like to volunteer, or are interested in donating, here are some food pantries serving Philadelphians.

Bebashi | 1237 Spring Garden St.

Bebashi’s Food First Pantry operates on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Guests can access fresh produce, meat, and other staple pantry items. To utilize the resource, you must get a referral if you are not already a client at Bebashi.

You can fill out this form if you’d like to volunteer with Bebashi or fill out this form to partner on a food drive.

Feast of Justice | 3101 Tyson Ave. & 6434 Castor Ave.

Feast of Justice serves 11 zip codes within Northeast Philadelphia, and requires one registration per household. At the Tyson Avenue location, there are walk-up and by-appointment distribution times on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Thursdays and Saturdays are when food distribution takes place at the Castor Avenue location.

Create a volunteer profile and sign up to help receive deliveries, restock, or distribute goods. Spanish and Mandarin speakers are especially in need.

St. Gabriel’s Food Cupboard | 2917 Dickinson St.

Nonperishable food is distributed to community members on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Guests should enter the space through the entrance on the 1500 block of Myrtlewood Street.

Contact the parish rectory for more information.

Food distribution at this Society Hill site is open to all, with volunteers giving out food on Saturday mornings. The church serves about 50 families per week.

Small Things | 3510 A St.

Small Things operates a free grocery store from its Fairhill location, providing food and personal items. The market is open on Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
